FAQ

Need to know more before you start?

What exactly does PlaySprig help you do?+

PlaySprig lets you describe a game idea, generate a playable version in the browser, and then keep editing the JavaScript and assets to make it your own.

How is this different from Scratch?+

Scratch uses visual blocks and produces animations that stay inside Scratch. PlaySprig generates real JavaScript — code that transfers to web development and professional tools. It's designed for kids who have outgrown blocks and want to build more ambitious projects.

What age is this for?+

PlaySprig is designed for kids ages 8 to 14, though older beginners enjoy it too. Kids under 13 get a parent-aware signup flow with consent verification to comply with COPPA.

Do you need coding experience first?+

No. The product is designed to remove the blank-page problem. AI creates the first version, and you learn by tweaking, rerunning, and asking for changes.

What programming language does it use?+

JavaScript. It's a real, industry-standard language used by professional developers, not a proprietary language that only works inside PlaySprig. We use JavaScript because it gives kids a path into real-world creation fast: it runs in the browser, maps naturally to interactive games, and transfers directly into broader web development skills later on.

Is my child's data safe?+

Yes. We're COPPA-compliant with no ads, no third-party trackers, and no behavioral profiling. All games run in a sandboxed browser environment that blocks external network calls. We collect only what's needed to run the service.

How does the browser sandbox work?+

Generated code runs in a constrained browser environment that blocks external network calls, prevents access to localStorage, and validates all code before execution. There are no ads and no tracking scripts.

Can my child share games publicly?+

Yes. Every project gets a shareable link that anyone can use to play the game in their browser. The shared game runs in the same safe sandbox environment.

Does my child need their own email?+

No. Children under 13 sign up with a username and their parent's email address. The parent email is used for consent verification and account management — the child never needs an email of their own.

What is the free plan for?+

The free tier delivers the full core experience — editor, AI generation, live preview, and shareable links — while limiting storage to 3 projects and generation to 5 per day. It's there to prove value before you upgrade.

What happens when we hit the free limit?+

You'll see a clear message that you've used your daily generations. You can keep editing and playing existing projects. Limits reset every day, or you can upgrade to PlaySprig Creator for 50 generations per day and unlimited saved projects.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. There are no contracts or cancellation fees. You can cancel your PlaySprig Creator subscription at any time and your account reverts to the free plan. Your projects stay saved.

Is this meant to replace beginner coding tools?+

Not exactly. PlaySprig is for kids who want more creative range, real code, and AI-assisted building without jumping straight into an adult developer environment. It bridges the gap between beginner tools and professional IDEs.

Can a parent sign up if their child is under 13?+

Yes. The child creates an account with a username and provides a parent email. The parent receives a consent email and has 48 hours to approve. The child can use the platform during that window.
